How can you cut down on your homes heat loss in Siskiyou County for the coming winter months?
I will keep this short and sweet:
1) Your House or investment property needs to be insulated
Generally the best and most efficient r-values are as fallows
Walls – R-19
Floors – R-25
Attics - R-38
If you can have these in place or get them installed it will make the biggest impact on your heating bill.
2) Check around your house for air leaks. It’s OK to have some air coming in and it’s essential that your house is not “Air tight” (this can lead to problems such as increased humidity the leads to potential Mold Growth.but if you stop the ones you can feel (windows, doors and attic access points should be your first check Then moving on to outlets and fixtures) that will be a big help in cutting down the heat loss.
3) Install energy efficient windows. I just did a Job for a customer in Mt. Shasta CA and she was having a real hard time keeping the 2nd story attic cool. We replaced the windows and she said she could feel the difference the next day. She said if felt 10 degrees cooler.
These 3 are the best bets for getting you energy bill down. Well that is unless you can adjust your thermostat but that is a whole other article about how to get along with others.
